Lightroom can definitely handle 1080p AVCHD mts files, at least on Win. As I recall, Lightroom can also import the AVCHD 2 files.

There's a free trial version limited to 1 minute clips. AVCHD 1 files (720p) are supported in iMovie, etc. The AVCHD 2 files (1020p) can be "wrapped" via the ClipWrap utility that makes them usable in most apps. How do I help my friend to work with these files? Is there some easy way for her to transcode them? Or should I bite the bullet, do it myself, and resend? (Many gigabytes, so it's a bit of a hassle.)
